Three Decades of Creativity, Growth & Impact
For three decades, the Faculty of Applied Arts & Technology has helped shape generations of creative professionals through practical, industry-focused education. From its roots in the former Fine Art Department to a dynamic faculty serving todayu2019s creative industries, FAAT continues to equip students with the skills, confidence, and entrepreneurial mindset to make meaningful contributions in Ghana and beyond.
Our Story
The Department's Journey
The Department of Graphic Design Technology at Takoradi Technical University traces its origins to 1992, when HND Commercial Arts programmes were introduced as part of Ghanau2019s polytechnic reforms, creating opportunities for tertiary-level training in visual communication, commercial art, printing, and applied design while helping students develop both creative and practical industry skills. In 2008, the Department of Graphic Design was formally established from the former Fine Art Department, giving the discipline a distinct academic identity and structure within the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology. Since then, the Department has continued to prepare students for careers across graphic design, advertising, packaging, publishing, photography, animation, printing, and other areas of the creative industry.

The B.Tech in Graphic Design provides advanced training across key areas of contemporary visual communication, with a strong focus on Multimedia, Advertising and Packaging, Animation, and Printing. The programme equips students with the creative, technical, and problem-solving skills needed to develop engaging digital content, effective advertising campaigns, innovative packaging solutions, dynamic motion and animation projects, and high-quality print materials. Through practical projects and industry-focused learning, students build the experience and portfolio needed to work confidently across todayu2019s creative and communication industries.
